Mongolia elected to UNESCO Committee

Mongolia has been for the first time elected a member of UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage for 2014-2018 at the fifth session of the General Assembly of the States Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage convened in Paris on June 2-5.

Mongolia endorsed the Convention for Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2005 and placed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity the Morin khuur, long song, Naadam festival, khoomii, eagle hunting and traditional craftsmanship of the Mongol Ger and its associated customs and in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding bielgee traditional dance, Mongol tsuur music, Folk long song performance technique of Limbe - circular breathing for inscription and calligraphy.
