In Mongolia, traffic police officers previously issued drivers cash fines for the violation of road rules. According to the department's new management, traffic officials will now issue drivers printed tickets for violations using special new equipment.

The Prime Minister noted that traffic police officers have adopted a smart system for fining drivers, with the investment of 1.8 billion tugrik.

The new equipment enables a fast and efficient way to respond to violations. A driver's ID card, finger print or driver’s license can be scanned by the equipment and the driver's information and record of past violations will show up on the reader's display.

Drivers will have 14 days to pay their fines from the date they are issued, and can make payments at any local bank. If the fines are past due, the fines will be increased, and drivers face the risk of having their licenses revoked.

Individual drivers will have a score of 100, which will be reduced every time a driver is found to committing a traffic violation. When a driver's score reaches zero, the driver will lose their right to drive and obligated to take driver's education classes and pass a proficiency exam.
