Officials warns herders to prepare well for winter

2013-11-06 16:58:39

Mongolians have suffered during recent winters by failing to adequately prepare for the harsh season. Specialists say, this year's snowfall will be greater than the last year's and temperatures will drop quickly as snow arrives. As of today, nationwide winter preparation stands at 80 percent completion, as specialists warn that cold weather is approaching.
The related officials noted, the first month of the winter season has arrived while winter preparations are not yet adequate. In light of reports of heavy snow, herders should brace for winter by saving their resources, although some provinces are still not prepared for the season. Only 65 percent of resources needed in the provinces have been gathered. The Ministry of Industry and Agriculture says that they will take measures to provide for  herders who still haven’t completed their winter preparations.
P.Gankhuyag Senior Specialist, Ministry of Industry and Agriculture  “The Government, related ministers and emergency resources will only pay attention to the herders who will face serious problems, but not to the ones who didn’t do anything for winter preparations”.
The herders, most of whom have suffered from “dzud” - a Mongolian term for a heavy, hard, snowy winter - began their preparations in the fall.
