In Sukhbaatar Province, located in the east of the country, a power station with a capacity of 13 megawatts is now in operation. Residents of the province are no longer in fear of power outages during the coldest time of the year.

During the Government’s “Development Hour” session, officials provided updates on the development projects throughout Mongolia. Heating stations will be in operation in Uvs, Khovd and Khuvsgul provinces by the end of this year, and a road connecting Dundgobi Province to the capital will be complete by November 1st. New roads in Dornod and Khuvsgul provinces are at 55 and 60 percent completion respectively.

Another issue during the session was the rising price of cement. In order to keep the price of cement low, a loan of 127 billion tugrik was given to 27 businesses, which were members of the “Union of Cement Importers”. The contracted businesses agreed to sell their cement at 145 thousand tugrik per ton, but the contracted price was only offered for five months. In the last two weeks, prices were raised to 185 thousand tugrik per ton. Mongolian Premier N.Altankhuyag criticized officials for the rise in the cement prices while the government continues to support cement traders through loans.
