In big changes for the provinces… and advancements in the country’s development  a new paved road now connects Russia and China across Mongolia. The opening ceremony was held in Zamyn-Uud soum of Dornogobi Province.

The opening ceremony celebrated 116 kilometers of road completed from Sainshand, the capital of Dornogobi Province, located in the eastern Gobi steppe along the Trans-Mongolian Railway to Zamyn-Uud soum.

N.Altankhuyag, Prime Minister of Mongolia “We, Mongolians, have completed a project connecting Europe and Asia with a paved road for the first time. This will connect Sainshand with Zamyn-Uud. In the past, 130 kilometers of paved road construction was built for the project. Now, by complementing 116 kilometers of paved road, Mongolia is now connected with an international transportation link. It is now possible for both domestic and foreign drivers to be on the road. Also, by making the Zamyn-Uud road operational, big changes in the Mongolian economy will be made”. 

In the past, transport was only made by railway and airway along this route, but the new road is important for a flourishing Mongolian economy.

In 2013, construction work on 1,800 kilometers of paved road was made. Mongolian roads were estimated at 3,000 kilometers, but today they are estimated to be nearly 5,000 kilometers, most of which was constructed in just one year.

Another opening ceremony marking advances in development for the tourism sector took place for the paved road to the Khamryn Khiid Energy Center, located in Sainshand of Dornogobi Province. An additional 40 kilometers from Sainshand to Khamryn Khiid is now in operation. Specialists see that by opening a paved road on this route, the Mongolian tourism sector can benefit by bringing more tourists to the energy center.
