On 19 May, President of Mongolia Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj met with President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping in Shanghai. After the meeting, Presidents had breakfast.
At the meeting, heads of state raised issues on enhancing political and economic cooperation, promoting regional partnership and discussed wide range of issues. This year marks the 65th Anniversary of Mongolia-China diplomatic relations, 20th Anniversary of the Treaty on Friendly Relations and Cooperation and Mongolia-China Friendship and Exchange Year and both sides exchanged views on these events.
The parties discussed cooperation in infrastructure, coal gasification project, transit transportation and seaport issues. Heads of state emphasized that bilateral cooperation is increasingly developing in the mineral and energy sectors which play important role in mutual trade and economic partnership between the two countries.
Furthermore, China in this year will host summits of APEC and President Xi Jinping expressed support for Mongolia entrance into APEC. The parties were scheduled to meet for 40 minutes, but their discussion lasted 2 hours and exchanged views on various issues in a friendly atmosphere.
President Elbegdorj invited President Xi Jinping to visit Mongolia and said: “I believe that your visit to Mongolia will bring the bilateral relations to a new stage of development”.
President Elbegdorj will meet with President of Russia, Vladimir Putin tomorrow and attend the Fourth Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, to be hosted in Shanghai, on May 20 and 21.
