
The last battalion of 850 Mongolian peacekeepers serving in UN peacekeeping operations in South Sudan returned home this past weekend. This was the first Mongolian battalion of this size to participate in peacekeeping. The soldiers were greeted by the President of Mongolia, who congratulated the soldiers for accomplishing their duty.
President Ts.Elbegdorj emphasized that the soldiers who left Mongolia for this hotspot nine months ago, are returning home with high praise from the United Nations. The soldiers worked in South Sudan to protect the UN's buildings and facilities, and to protect the locals from danger.
Ts.Elbegdorj, President of Mongolia, “Our soldiers who have participated in this peacekeeping operation have accomplished their duties. I am pleased to hear that our soldiers have received high praise from the United Nations during their time in service”.
The soldiers noted that their duty was not an easy task. Mongolian soldiers were in charge of bringing 27 children affected by war to their home country.
Mongolia has been participating in peacekeeping operation since 2002, and sent approximately six thousand soldiers to sites around the world.
