Transparency International Report: Mongolian corruption rate improves

2013-12-09 16:19:32

While surveys say that corruption continues to be the third most important problem in the country, another report from Transparency International says that the Mongolian corruption index is improving. In this year’s corruption perception index, Mongolia was ranked 83rd out of 177 countries, an improvement from 94th out of 174 countries surveyed last year.

Last week, Transparency International, a non-governmental organization that monitors and publicizes corporate and political actions in international development, released its Corruption Perception Index 2013. This year a total of 177 countries were included on a scale from 0 to 100. Mongolia was ranked 83rd with a score of 38 out of 100 based on how corrupt a country’s public sector is perceived to be. Last year Mongolia was 94th out of 174 countries and received a score of 36 out of 100.

The 2013 CPI draws on data sources from independent institutions specializing in governance and business climate analysis. The sources of information used for the 2013 CPI are based on data gathered in the past 24 months. The CPI includes only sources that provide a score for a set of countries or territories, and that measure perceptions of corruption in the public sector. Transparency International reviews the methodology of each data source in detail to ensure that the sources used meet Transparency International’s quality standards.
