Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia L.Bold paid an official visit to Poland, the first ever visit held by Mongolia at the Foreign Minister’s level to Poland.

During the visit, Minister L.Bold held official negotiations with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Poland Radosław Sikorski. The Mongolian Minister said the Mongolia-Poland relations has increasingly developed in recent years noting that bilateral cooperation directions were defined during the reciprocal visits of the Presidents of Mongolia and Poland last year. The current visit aims to translate the agreements into reality and to foster bilateral economic and business ties, stressed Mr. L.Bold.

POLAND TO OPEN ITS DIPLOMATIC MISSION

During the meeting, the Polish side informed of its decision to re-open its diplomatic mission in Ulaanbaatar within this year which was closed in 2009 for the financial reason. The parties agreed on the deepening of bilateral relations in the areas of defense, culture, education and science and on supporting each other within EU, UN and other international organizations and shared views on some international issues of mutual concern. The Polish side, particularly, expressed its readiness to support Mongolia in elections for UN Human Rights Council in 2015.

During the meeting, the sides signed a protocol on visa-free travel for holders of diplomatic and official passports for up to 90 days.
After the meeting, Minister L.Bold laid wreaths at the Tomb to Unknown Soldier.

ECONOMIC TIES TO BE BOOST

As a part of his visit, Minister L.Bold met Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Poland Janusz Piechocinski. Mongolia has a willingness to boost trade, economic and investment cooperation with Poland, Minister L.Bold underlined. The sides agreed that the bilateral trade turnover of USD 60 million is insufficient taking into account huge possibilities of collaboration.

With an aim to improve the situation, a special event was hosted at the Ministry of Economy of Poland to promote the economic and investment dimensions of Mongolia during which Minister L.Bold met with representatives of about 40 Polish leading companies. The latter expressed their aspiration to establish contacts with Mongolian business circles and implement certain cooperation projects the fields of food industry, construction, environmental protection, water and waste management and medical equipment production.

TRADITIONAL COOPERATION FOR DEMOCRACY TO FOSTER

Afterwards, Minister L.Bold held a meeting with Marshal of the Senate of Poland Bogdan Michał Borusewicz and Deputy Marshal of Sejm Jerzy Wenderlich. Minister L.Bold stressed that a visit of the Senate Marshal to Mongolia in May 2013 was an important event for bilateral relations not only between parliaments of the two countries, but also between Mongolia and Poland. Informing that Parliament Speaker of Mongolia Z.Enkhbold expects to visit Poland in September 2014, Minister L.Bold expressed a confidence that the upcoming visit would lend a significant impetus to bringing bilateral relations and cooperation up to a new level. He forwarded a request to Poland as a member of EU to heed the completion of pertinent procedures shortly in order to put in force the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement concluded between Mongolia and EU.

The Foreign Minister had also a meeting with President of the Polish Foundation for International Solidarity Krzysztof Stanovsky. The sides agreed to carry out joint projects for the promotion of education for democracy and core democratic values in the region. Education for democracy is one of main areas of bilateral cooperation within the Community of Democracies an important outcome of which was resolution on education for democracy is of bilateral productive cooperation. With a view to smooth the implementation of the resolution, the sides agreed to work together in the organization of an international conference in Ulaanbaatar.
