Mongolia and France`s bilateral ties dates back to the 13th century.  It was said by FM of Mongolia Mr. Purevsuren at the opening ceremony dedicated to the 50thanniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and France. The FM further added that "Relation between our two countries was established 800 years ago and emperors of Mongolia and France were sending missions between each other since ancient times".

Although some copies of historical letters or documents related to the 13th century Mongol Empire’s Il Khanate in Persia suggests the hundreds of years of diplomatic relations, Mongolia officially established diplomatic relations with Republic of France in 1965. Modern relation between Mongolia and France has been developed in the sectors of politics, energy, agriculture, defense and culture.
