
On June 4, 2015, President of Mongolia Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj met with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Mr. Herve Ladsous. Mr. Herve Ladsous informed that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon highly values Mongolian military officers and servicemen who are serving in peacekeeping operations under the UN mandate. He noted that the UN is calling on its Member States to prepare troops for rapid deployment.
President Elbegdorj said: “Mongolia supports the call of the UN for Member States to prepare troops for rapid deployment. But we should also consider appropriate criteria for establishing and maintaining of such deployment and elaborate reimbursement systems for TCC and ensure the clarity of levels of the readiness and composition of troops.
We are happy to note that a Mongolian Brigadier General has started to serve as an area’s commander for peacekeeping force. Mongolia supports UN initiative of the important role of women in maintaining international peace and security. We are glad that a Mongolian female soldier was selected as a military officer, seconded to the Department of Peacekeeping Operations and started the duties”.
The parties exchanged views on the Khan Quest, multinational peacekeeping exercise, hosted annually by the Mongolian Armed Forces and other international issues.
