Countries around the globe are likely to compete with their human development index. But Mongolia was poorly rated on an index looking at economic development for the disabled in the country, compared to other Asia Pacific countries.
Studies say there are around 90 to 100 thousand people with disabilities in the country. Seventy-four thousand people with disabilities are able to work. But a meeting of officials and organizations working with this sector emphasized that policy towards these citizens is inadequate, while these people are able participate in the work force.
B.Chuluundolgor President, National Union of People with Wheelchairs, “Currently, 30 percent of people with disabilities are working. But mostly, they are working unofficially, such as helping out with their family businesses, or working from their homes”.
Participants in the session criticized the state for violating their own approved laws. According to labor law, for every organization with over 25 employees, four or more employees should be people with disabilities. The number of organizations and businesses included in the law was around 3,000 four years ago. But if these companies were operating under the law, the number of unemployed people with disabilities would be much lower.
