
Mongolian President Tsakhia Elbegdorj’s visit to Southeast Asian countries is continuing. During his visit the President gave a lecture at Yangon University of Myanmar a school which has a 200 year history. He answered questions from students and teachers at the university.
Yangon University became one of the top schools in Asia between 1940 and 1950, known for its quality education. Many top leaders in Myanmar have graduated from this school. The President of Mongolia held talks on democracy with the students and teachers at Yangon. The President of the United States, Barak Obama, also gave a lecture at the university last year.
After the lecture, President Elbegdorj answered questions from students and teachers. They asked the President about how Mongolia is dealing with corruption, the main issue in democratic transition, what needs to be done in order to improve relations between Mongolia and Myanmar, particularly in developing people to people relations, about what sorts of changes the President initiated in his “Big state to smart state” consultative meeting bring, and also about how the mining boom in Mongolia is affecting the environment.
President Elbegdorj gave clear answers to each question. He then participated in the Mongolia-Myanmar business forum.
The President’s visit to Southeast Asia is continuing in Vietnam.
