Mongolia’s ethnic band Khusugtun is competing in the semi-final of “Asia’s Got Talent” show. The Mongolian band successfully went through the first stage in mid-March and distinguished from among some 900 artists of more than 20 countries. Khusugtun surprised the judges and the audience by performing the traditional Mongolian dual throat singing khuumii. In the semi-final Khusugtun is to struggle with 16 semi-finalists. The most successful semi-finalists will be named not by the judges but by public vote via SMS voting, in App voting and Face book voting.

The top participants who collected the most votes will be qualified for the finale to be held at the iconic Marina Bay Sands in Singapore and win the prize of 100 thousand USD. Khusugtun ethnic band has six folk musicians graduated from the Music and Dance College in Mongolia’s capital Ulaanbaatar. Inspired by the nomadic ancestry and historic civilization, the band started in 2009. Since, Khusugtun is working to advocate the Mongolian culture and traditional music to the world.

In 2010, Khusugtun ethnic band voted BBC radio ‘World Routes” most favorite group and performance. In 2011, Khusugtun performed in Royal Albert Hall of London at BBC Proms “Human Planet” concert. They see Asia’s Got Talent yet another wonderful opportunity to go to the world. Khusugtun performs on the Mongolian traditional musical instruments the Morin khuur or the horse headed fiddle, the Yatga and the traditional wooden drum. They also incorporate the Khuumii or breath taking throat singing of Mongolian ancestors.
